As the founder of HTFF I am excited to begin "blogging" along with a few other Board Members. I would like to share my adventures of being an animal rescuer as a way to let out some of the feelings I keep inside of my heart and mind. I guess I am going to try and make this a therapeutic tidbit of sorts for myself. However, I also want to show what HTFF does day in and day out.
I am sorry to say that we rarely get monetary donations and we struggle to find good, reliable fosters and volunteers. We are reached out to daily by people from the community and shelter staff who need to re-home or get animals rescued. We get calls and emails and texts asking us to take in everything from newborn kittens to rats to dogs to pigs. The main rescuers of HTFF, the Board Members, and the few loyal volunteers have day jobs or they are students. I myself have been a Special Ed. teacher for over 13 years and I am currently undertaking post-graduate studies at Azusa Pacific University. We work very, very hard and yet we still get the condescending look when we tell someone not all Chihuahuas are barky and we still have the complaints from those who feel we should be giving away our rescued animals for free. We get the people who feel we should take in every animal including their senior pets they wish to discard like trash and we have to deal with other people who want to get that most perfect cat who won't shed and won't jump and won't this and won't that. We have good days and bad, we have fun days, and incredible, crazy days! We hardly ever have quiet days unless it is a Sunday adoption fair where no one gets adopted.
Whew! That felt good! So this blog is going to share the nitty-gritty of what we do each day (or every other day or every third day, well you get the idea). It will be fun and it may be angering. It might be sad and we might even get controversial. But whatever this blog develops into, it will be raw and truthful. See you tomorrow!
